Men's Tennis Sweeps Panthers, Generals Up Next

Ferrum, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team completed a perfect 7-0 sweep over the Ferrum Panthers on Tuesday afternoon for the squad's second conference win of the season.

The Hornets (7-2, 2-2) won all three matches of the doubles event, allowing just four games to the Panthers of the three matches. The duo of Timothee DePaquit and Luca Morbioli took down Gabriel Alvarez and Emilio Munguia in the number one spot, 6-3. Sebastian Soria and Alex Rintoul claimed a 6-1 win over Austin Brigman and Tripoom Jala in the number two spot, 6-1, while Dan Hardy and Jorge Patricio Zepeda bageled Spencer Buse and Jairo Herbas in the three spot.

Moving on to the singles event, Morbioli claimed a 6-4, 7-5 win over Munguia in the number one spot and Soria defeated Jala in the number two spot with the same set scores. Rintoul triumphed in the three spot with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alvarez. DePaquit had a commanding win against Herbas in the four spot and did not allow a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Zepeda had an assertive win in the five spot versus Brigman, 6-1, 6-0, and Oliver Lizano rounded out the competition with a win against Aukeim Mitchell in the six spot, 6-1, 6-2.

DePaquit claimed his seventh win of the season and currently leads the team in individual victories with a 7-2 singles record. Morbioli, Rintoul, and Soria all added to their singles win totals as well. They all sit at six singles wins for the season. All of Morbioli's singles matches have been played in the number one spot. Sebastian Sierra also owns six singles wins this season, though he did not participate in today's affair.

The duo of Hardy and Zepeda increased their doubles record to an unblemished 4-0. Soria and Rintoul have the most wins on the squad as a pairing with a 7-1 record this season. Morbioli and DePaquit have played every match so far in the number one spot and improved to a 5-5 overall record as a pair.

The Hornets are right back into action tomorrow for a midweek matchup at Washington and Lee on Wednesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
