Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track & field teams enter their first split-squad weekend of the 2025-2026 season as they prepare to compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational and Finn Pincus Invitational on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17.
Several Hornets will encounter Division I opponents at Virginia Tech, while the remainder of the team will travel to Roanoke College's Kerr-Cregger Field House to face Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition.
Meet Schedules
The majority of running events from Virginia Tech will commence on Friday, including prelims and finals for the short-sprint events. At the Finn Pincus Invitational, prelims and finals are split into separate days, with the schedule balanced between the two.
On Friday, field events kick off at Virginia Tech with the women's pole vault at 2:30 p.m., while running events begin with the women's mile run at 5:00 p.m. At Roanoke College, competition opens with the women's pole vault at 3:00 p.m and women's 60-meter hurdle prelims at 4:30 p.m.
Facilities
The Virginia Tech Invitational is hosted at Rector Field House, which features a banked 200-meter track with a Mondo surface. The field house formerly hosted five Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Roanoke College utilizes a 200-meter flat oval and will host the 2026 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Hornets prepare to compete at Kerr-Cregger Field House three times throughout the season.
Trekking to the Top
While no school records were captured in the team's first three meets, Lynchburg wrinkled the national performance lists with several top-25 marks.
Senior transfer Lamont Victoria cleared the 6' 9" (2.06m) bar in the men's high jump at The Burg Open, securing the second-best mark in Division III. Sophomore Aidan Hipp occupies 21st in the national standings after a 6' 6" (1.98m) personal-best performance last weekend.
Senior Kacey Kelly aims to return to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the women's triple jump after claiming third place in 2025; with a 38' 7½" (11.77m) mark, she sits in fourth place in DIII. In the women's weight throw, junior Kenzie Swicegood's 55' 1" (16.79m) performance from December remains fourth in the nation.Â
With stellar marks at the Liberty Kickoff in December, junior Micah Leech accelerated into fourth in the DIII qualifying list for the men's heptathlon with 4,975 points. To wrap up Lynchburg's individual top-10 marks in the country, sophomore Alex Jordan posted an 8:24.78 3,000m personal best to earn 10th in DIII.
The top 20 performers qualify for each event at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
"Chasen" the Title
Senior transfer Chasen Hunt will make his debut in the men's mile at Virginia Tech, marking his first event since capturing a national title in the men's 5,000m at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
While Hunt spent the cross country season at the University of North Carolina, the Brookville High School product returned to Lynchburg with an opportunity to claim additional hardware throughout the track & field season. The two-time national champion and nine-time conference champion holds the DIII outdoor men's 5,000m record of 13:41.96, which was posted at the Bryan Clay Invitational last outdoor season.
Hunt's school record in the men's indoor mile currently sits at 4:02.58 from the 2024-2025 season, though he registered a 4:00.98 performance at the Hill City Twilight last May.
