Buena Vista, Va. --Â The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team opened its dual-match schedule with a 6-1 victory over Southern Virginia on Thursday at the Tennis Complex.
The Hornets (1-0) claimed the doubles point over the Knights (0-2) with victories at the second and third positions.
Marina Foureaux and
Kayla Kosiorek defeated Lucy Dalgleish and Taylor Harker 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Isabela Florez and
Megan Tinsley added a 6-0 victory over Kaylee Huber and Halle Parkin at the third position.
Southern Virginia earned its doubles victory at No. 1, where Erika Read and Tally Johnston defeated
Giovana Gaboardi and
Isadora Lima 6-4. Lynchburg then won five of the six singles matches, with each victory coming in straight sets.
Lima defeated Johnston 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Kosiorek surrendered only two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dalgleish at the third position. Foureaux earned a 6-3, 7-6 win against Harker at No. 4. Florez followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Huber at the fifth position.
Isabella Ascencio completed Lynchburg's scoring with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Parkin at No. 6 singles. Gaboardi played Lynchburg's only three-set match at the top singles position. Read won the opening set in a tiebreaker before Gaboardi took the second set 6-3. Read secured Southern Virginia's lone team point by winning the deciding set 6-3.
The Hornets are set to close out their fall slate of competitions against UVA Wise in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday, October 17 at 11 a.m.
