Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams opened up the Spring Tennis Fest tournament with wins over Clark University on Sunday morning.
The women's team recorded a 7-0 sweep in its morning match. Lynchburg secured all three doubles contests, beginning with a 6-1 win from
Isadora Lima and
Kayla Kosiorek at No. 1.
Ashley Hair and
Giovana Gaboardi followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 2, and
Megan Tinsley and
Maggie Wonderling completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 result at No. 3.
In singles, Lynchburg maintained control across the lineup. Lima claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Kosiorek earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Gaboardi posted a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 3, and Hair added a 6-1, 6-0 result at No. 4. Tinsley secured a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, and
Harper Dodd finished the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
The men's team followed with a 5-2 victory. Lynchburg swept doubles play, as
Ricards Spaks and Patricio Zepeda won 6-4 at No. 1,
Nicholas Pierreux and
Daniel Gomes earned a 6-2 decision at No. 2, and
Alexandre Gaboardi and
Alvaro Quiroga Amaya took a 6-0 win at No. 3.
In singles, Spaks secured a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1, and Gaboardi added a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3. Quiroga Amaya earned a win by opponent retirement at No. 5, and Gomes delivered a 6-4, 7-6 victory at No. 6.
Both Hornet squads return to action tomorrow, taking on Lebanon Valley in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on Monday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
