Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's and Women's Tennis Fall On The Road At Averett

Danville, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Averett for some conference matches on Sunday afternoon. The men's team fell, 4-2, while the women's team lost 7-0.

In the women's match, Averett claimed the doubles point after winning all three contests. Isadora Lima and Kayla Kosiorek fell in a close match at No. 1 doubles, dropping a 7-6 (7-4) decision. Ashley Hair and Giovana Gaboardi were defeated 6-3 at No. 2, while Maggie Wonderling and Harper Dodd fell 6-2 at No. 3.

Singles play followed with Averett securing victories across the lineup. Isadora Lima fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Kayla Kosiorek dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 2. Giovana Gaboardi was defeated 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. Ashley Hair pushed her match to a third-set tiebreak at No. 4 before falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-4. At No. 5, Harper Dodd was defeated 6-0, 6-0, and Maggie Wonderling fell by the same score at No. 6.

The men's match began with Averett sweeping the doubles point. Ricards Spaks and Patricio Zepeda were edged in a 7-6 (7-3) match at No. 1 doubles, while Daniel Gomes and Nicholas Pierreux fell 6-3 at No. 2. Alvaro Quiroga Amaya and Alexandre Gaboardi were defeated 6-0 at No. 3.

In singles, Lynchburg earned two victories. Ricards Spaks secured a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, and Nicholas Pierreux added a three-set victory at No. 2, winning 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Averett claimed the remaining completed singles matches at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5. The match at No. 6 singles between Daniel Gomes and Sam Egui was unfinished when play concluded.

The men's squad returns to action on Tuesday, welcoming Washington and Lee on Tuesday, March 17 at 1 p.m., while the women's group will not play again until next Thursday, March 26 at Methodist in Fayetteville, N.C. at 2 p.m.
