Fayetteville, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams took a trip south to compete against tough nonconference competition in Methodist on Thursday afternoon at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.
The Hornets' men's team (6-4) fell to the Monarchs, 6-1, while the women's team (5-3) dropped, 5-2. In the women's match, Lynchburg split the doubles contests.
Ashley Hair and
Giovana Gaboardi earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Isadora Lima and
Kayla Kosiorek fell 6-3 at No. 1.
Gabriella Rivero and
Maggie Wonderling were defeated 6-2 at No. 3 as Methodist secured the doubles point.
Lynchburg picked up two singles victories.
Kayla Kosiorek earned a three-set win at No. 2 singles, posting a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6) result.
Giovana Gaboardi followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 3. Methodist claimed the remaining singles matches, including a three-set contest at No. 4, to secure the 5-2 team result.
In the men's match, Lynchburg was edged in doubles play.
Ricards Spaks and
Nicholas Pierreux fell 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, while
Sebastian Soria and
Alvaro Quiroga Amaya dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 2.
Daniel Gomes and
Alexandre Gaboardi were defeated 8-6 in a close match at No. 3 as Methodist took the doubles point.
Ricards Spaks recorded Lynchburg's lone singles win, earning a three-set victory at No. 1 with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 result. Methodist claimed the remaining singles matches, including multiple three-set contests, to secure the 6-1 outcome.
The Hornets' women's squad will return to action on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. against Bridgewater on the road, then both the men's and women's teams will travel to Roanoke on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
