Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team welcomed Washington and Lee for a home match and battled but ultimately fell, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets (5-3, 1-2 ODAC) began their match against the Generals (4-7, 3-0)Â with doubles competition, where Lynchburg secured a win at the top position.
Ricards Spaks and
Nicholas Pierreux earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Washington and Lee responded by taking the remaining doubles matches, winning 6-0 at No. 2 and 6-4 at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, Lynchburg picked up two wins at the top of the lineup.
Ricards Spaks recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.
Nicholas Pierreux followed with a three-set win at No. 2 singles, dropping the first set before rallying for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 result.
Washington and Lee claimed the remaining singles matches to seal the team victory.
Alexandre Gaboardi fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and
Sebastian Sierra was defeated 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.
Daniel Gomes dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 5, while
Alvaro Quiroga Amaya fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
With Washington and Lee securing the doubles point and four singles matches, the contest concluded with a 5-2 result. Lynchburg's two points came from the singles victories by Spaks and Pierreux along with the doubles win from Spaks and Pierreux at the No. 1 position.
Next up, Lynchburg will take on Bridgewater on the road at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 19.
