Bridgewater, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team took its talents to Bridgewater and swept the Eagles, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Mapp-Whitelow Tennis Courts.
The Hornets (6-3, 2-2 ODAC) began their match against the Eagles (5-6, 0-3) with a strong showing in doubles play, as Lynchburg swept all three positions. At No. 1 doubles,
Ricards Spaks and
Nicholas Pierreux secured a 6-1 win.
Sebastian Sierra and
Sebastian Soria followed with a 6-0 victory at No. 2, and
Yaacov Amaya and
Oliver Lizano completed the sweep with a 6-3 decision at No. 3.
Lynchburg carried that momentum into singles, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Ricards Spaks led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Nicholas Pierreux posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2, and
Alvaro Quiroga Amaya earned a 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 3.
In the middle of the lineup,
Daniel Gomes recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.
Sebastian Soria added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5, and
Oliver Lizano closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
With wins in all three doubles matches and all six singles contests, Lynchburg completed the 7-0 sweep. The team controlled play throughout the match, winning each doubles point and every singles position in straight sets to secure the result.
Next on the slate, the Hornets will travel to Fayetteville, N.C. to match up against Methodist on Thursday, March 26 at 2 p.m.
