LYNCHBURG, Va. --Â Â Lynchburg defeated Bridgewater in three straight sets Tuesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match at Turner Gym, winning 27-25, 25-20, 25-16.
Joshua Davis led Lynchburg with 12 kills, while Bryce Jackson added seven kills and contributed at the net with multiple block assists. Nick Redding finished with six kills and two service aces, and Mason Kenna totaled five kills and two aces. Will Radi directed the offense with a match-high 31 assists.
The Hornets (10-9, 7-4 ODAC) and Eagles (5-20, 2-8 ODAC) opened with a back-and-forth first set. By the first media timeout, Lynchburg held a slim 15-14 advantage, with neither team leading by more than two points. Throughout the frame, neither side strung together more than four consecutive points or built a lead larger than three. Fittingly, the set required extra points to determine a winner. A Redding kill followed by consecutive Hornets blocks secured the opening frame.
The second set began in similar fashion, with both teams trading points early. Bridgewater later pieced together a 7-1 run to take control, but Lynchburg responded with an 11-2 surge to regain momentum and build a 23-19 lead. A Davis kill, followed by a Jackson service ace, closed out the set and put the Hornets one frame away from the sweep.
Lynchburg delivered its strongest performance in the third set, jumping out to an early advantage and claiming a 15-8 lead at the midway point. The Hornets maintained a high offensive efficiency and steadily pulled away to finish off the match with a 25-16 decision.
Lynchburg returns to action Saturday, March 21, with a pair of matches at Randolph against the Wildcats and Regent.
