Salem, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams battled past Roanoke on the Road on Sunday afternoon at the EC Courts. The men's squad won, 6-1, while the women's crew stood victorious, 5-2.
The women's team secured a 5-2 win, beginning with a strong performance in doubles.
Isadora Lima and
Kayla Kosiorek won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while
Harper Dodd and
Megan Tinsley added a 6-2 victory at No. 3. Roanoke claimed the No. 2 doubles match 6-3, giving Lynchburg a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles, Lynchburg earned four victories.
Isadora Lima posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1, and
Ashley Hair followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
Maggie Wonderling recorded a 6-1, 6-0 result at No. 5, and
Megan Tinsley secured a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. Roanoke picked up points at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, but Lynchburg held on for the 5-2 team victory.
The men's team followed with a 6-1 win. Lynchburg took two of three doubles matches, as
Ricards Spaks and
Nicholas Pierreux won 6-3 at No. 1 and
Alexandre Gaboardi and
Daniel Gomes earned a 6-3 victory at No. 3. Roanoke claimed the No. 2 doubles match 6-0.
Lynchburg secured five singles victories to close the match.
Ricards Spaks won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, and
Nicholas Pierreux added a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Alexandre Gaboardi earned a three-set win at No. 3, while
Daniel Gomes recorded a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 5.
Sebastian Soria closed the match with a three-set victory at No. 6. Roanoke's lone point came at No. 4 singles.
Both the men's and women's squads have a brief break in their schedule before returning to action on Wednesday, April 8 at 3 p.m. to take on Hill City Rival Randolph.
