Women's Tennis Takes Down Randolph, Men's Tennis Drops Against WildCats

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams took a cross-town trip to Randolph for the teams' Code Red matches on Wednesday afternoon. The women's crew edged out the win, 4-3, while the men's team dropped the contest, 6-1.

The women's match began with Lynchburg taking two of three doubles contests. Ashley Hair and Giovana Gaboardi secured a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Megan Tinsley and Harper Dodd earned a 7-6 (7-4) victory at No. 3. Randolph claimed the No. 1 doubles match 6-4, but Lynchburg carried a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

In singles, Lynchburg secured three wins to clinch the match. Ashley Hair posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles, and Giovana Gaboardi followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4. Maggie Wonderling added a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6. Randolph picked up wins at No. 1 singles in three sets and at No. 5, while the No. 2 match ended in a win by opponent retirement for Randolph.

In the men's match, Randolph swept doubles play. Ricards Spaks and Nicholas Pierreux fell 7-6 at No. 1 doubles, Alexandre Gaboardi and Daniel Gomes dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 2, and Dan Hardy and Patricio Zepeda were defeated 6-3 at No. 3.

Ricards Spaks earned Lynchburg's lone point with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Randolph claimed the remaining singles matches, including a three-set match at No. 5, to secure the 6-1 result.

The men's squad returns to action tomorrow, Thursday, April 9 in Farmville, Va. to take on Longwood at 1 p.m., while the women's team will visit Shenandoah in Winchester, Va. on Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
