LYNCHBURG, Va. --Â The University of Lynchburg men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Roanoke on Tuesday evening inside Turner Gym, dropping the ODAC contest 25-22, 25-18, 25-23.
The Hornets (4-8, 2-3 ODAC) battled throughout the match, keeping each set within reach, but Roanoke's efficiency proved to be the difference. The Maroons hit .370 as a team and totaled 42 kills in the three-set sweep.
Lynchburg opened the match trading points in a competitive first set. The Hornets recorded 13 kills in the frame and kept the margin tight late, but Roanoke closed on a small run to secure the 25-22 win.
The second set saw the visitors create separation midway through. Despite 10 kills from Lynchburg in the set, Roanoke capitalized on key scoring stretches to take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-18 decision.
In the third, the Hornets showed resilience. After falling behind early, Lynchburg fought back to narrow the deficit late behind strong play at the net. The Hornets hit .290 in the final frame, but Roanoke edged out a 25-23 win to seal the match.
Joshua Davis paced Lynchburg with 15 kills, while Nick Redding added 10 and Mason Kenna contributed five. Will Radi orchestrated the offense with 32 assists and added four digs. Defensively, Brayden Berardo led the Hornets with six digs, and Stefan Kapitanov posted a team-high three blocks.
As a team, Lynchburg recorded 36 kills, four service aces, and seven total blocks.
The Hornets will look to regroup as they continue conference play on Firday in a double header against Shenandoah.Â
