Winchester, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams took a trip to Shenandoah and both fell just short on Sunday afternoon. The women's team was nipped, 4-3, and the men's team dropped the match, 6-1.
In the women's match, Shenandoah secured the doubles point by winning two of three matches.
Ashley Hair and
Giovana Gaboardi earned a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while
Isadora Lima and
Kayla Kosiorek fell 6-3 at No. 1.
Megan Tinsley and
Maggie Wonderling were defeated 6-3 at No. 3.
Lynchburg picked up three singles wins.
Isadora Lima recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles, while
Giovana Gaboardi posted a 6-0, 6-0 result at No. 4.
Megan Tinsley added a three-set win at No. 6, defeating her opponent 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Shenandoah secured the remaining singles matches, including two three-set contests at No. 3 and No. 5, to earn the 4-3 team result.
In the men's match, Lynchburg opened with a win at No. 1 doubles as
Ricards Spaks and Nicolas Pierreux earned a 6-1 victory. Shenandoah claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to secure the point.
Ricards Spaks earned Lynchburg's lone singles victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1. Shenandoah claimed the remaining singles matches, including three-set contests at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, to secure the 6-1 result.
The women's group is set to travel to Meredith in Raleigh, N.C. on Wednesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. while the men's crew will welcome Virginia Wesleyan to Lynchburg, Va. next week on Sunday, April 19 at 11 a.m.
