Softball Secures Senior Day Sweep

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg softball team swept its ODAC doubleheader against Bridgewater Sunday afternoon at Moon Field, walking off game one in extra innings before erupting late to take game two.

Game 1: Lynchburg 5, Bridgewater 4 (8 innings)

Lynchburg opened the day with early momentum, plating three runs in the first inning behind an RBI walk from Sarah Watts and a sacrifice fly from Hailey Schildt. The Hornets added another run in the third as Schildt delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.

Bridgewater chipped away and eventually erased the deficit with a two-run seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4, forcing extras. After a scoreless top half in the eighth, Lynchburg found the answer in the bottom frame. With runners on, Alex Love delivered the decisive hit to bring home the game-winning run and secure the 5-4 victory.

Love led the Hornets at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Schildt added two RBI. Watts reached base three times and drove in a run. McKenzie Booth earned the win in the circle, tossing 5.1 innings, while Kate Charlton provided relief in the middle frames.

Game 2: Lynchburg 6, Bridgewater 1

The second game remained a pitcher's duel through five innings, with Bridgewater holding a 1-0 lead after a solo home run in the first. Sydney Bryant kept Lynchburg within striking distance, going the distance in the circle and allowing just one run on six hits.

The Hornets broke through in a decisive sixth inning, scoring six runs on five hits to flip the game entirely. Taking advantage of a defensive miscue, Lynchburg capitalized with timely hitting, including RBI knocks from Helen Maddux and a two-run double from Bryanna Orange to highlight the surge.

Maddux and Schildt each recorded two hits to pace the offense, while Orange drove in a pair in the breakout inning. Bryant earned the win with a complete-game effort, sealing the 6-1 victory and the doubleheader split for Lynchburg.
