Lynchburg Falls to Randolph-Macon in Road Doubleheader

ASHLAND, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg softball team dropped both ends of an ODAC doubleheader at Randolph-Macon on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-3 in the opener before an 8-0 defeat in game two.

Game One: Lynchburg 3, Randolph-Macon 4
Lynchburg  battled back from an early deficit and briefly took control, but Randolph-Macon used a late rally to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh.

The Yellow Jackets struck first with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, then added another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Lynchburg responded in the fifth with a three-run frame to swing momentum. Sydney Bryant and Bryanna Orange opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and after a sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position, Alex Love delivered an RBI double down the left field line. Sarah Watts followed with a two-run single to right center, giving the Hornets a 3-2 advantage.

Randolph-Macon answered in the bottom half of the seventh. After loading the bases, a sacrifice fly tied the game before a single up the middle brought home the winning run, sealing the 4-3 decision.

Game Two: Lynchburg 0, Randolph-Macon 8 (5 innings)
Love led the offense with a double and RBI, while Watts finished with two RBI. Bryant added a hit and scored a run in the loss.

Lynchburg was held off the scoreboard in an 8-0 loss, as Randolph-Macon built an early lead and never looked back.

The Yellow Jackets broke the game open with four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double, and added four more in the third to extend the lead to 8-0.

Lynchburg threatened early, putting runners on second and third in the first inning, but could not capitalize. The Hornets finished with four hits in the contest, with Sarah Watts, Alyssa Talayumptewa, Sydney Bryant, and Georgia Thompson each recording one.

Randolph-Macon's pitching staff kept Lynchburg off balance throughout, limiting the Hornets to just two walks and no runs over five innings to complete the sweep.
