Lynchburg, Va. – Entering the final meet weekend of the regular season, the University of Lynchburg outdoor track & field teams will send athletes to compete at the Virginia Challenge, WildCat Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18.
Just one week ahead of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships, the Hornets plan to solidify conference marks and improve their standing for the NCAA Championships.
Although most athletes will rest this weekend, the Hornets in competition will travel to different meets based on their event.
Virginia Challenge (Charlottesville, Va.)
Select athletes will compete against Division I opponents at the Virginia Challenge, hosted by the University of Virginia on Friday and Saturday.
Lamont Victoria and Jamarcus Brown will participate in the men's high jump, while the pair still occupies the top two marks in Division III (7' 1" or 2.16m). On the track, Rylee Turner and Kaitlyn Ruiz will race the women's 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash, respectively.
The meet will take place at Lannigan Field, which opened in 2012 and has hosted conference championship events. For Lynchburg's performances on Saturday, the high temperature will be 90 degrees under partly cloudy skies, with a projected low of 62.
WildCat Invitational (Lynchburg, Va.)
The majority of Lynchburg's athletes will travel across town to Randolph College to face local opponents at the WildCat Invitational, hosted at WildCat Stadium.
All track events will take place on Saturday, while select field events will begin on Friday. Field events begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday with the men's shot put, while running events commence with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:00 a.m.
Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif.)
On the distance side, Alex Jordan will toe the line for the men's 5,000-meter run on Friday night at the Bryan Clay Invitational, a widely esteemed competition for athletes in every division. Hosted by Azusa Pacific University, the three-day meet hosts many of the nation's top distance runners in the final portion of the regular season.
In his first 5k of the season, Jordan will look to replicate his success from the indoor season, during which he posted a conference-record 14:11.47 at the Valentine Invitational in Boston.
Cougar Athletic Stadium seats 2,000 spectators and opened in 1986.
