Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's And Women's Tennis Compete Against VWU For Senior Day

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at the E.C. Glass High School Tennis Courts and were defeated in hard-fought matches. 

The squads celebrated and honored their seniors prior to today's match. Seniors on the women's team included Ashley Hair and Reese McAtee, while seniors on the men's squad included Dan Hardy, Alex Rintoul, Sebastian Sierra, Sebastian Soria, and Jorge Patricio Zepeda.

In the women's match, Lynchburg secured wins in two of three doubles contests. Isadora Lima and Kayla Kosiorek earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Megan Tinsley and Maggie Wonderling added a 6-3 win at No. 3. Virginia Wesleyan claimed the No. 1 doubles match 6-2.

In singles, Lynchburg's lone point came from a tightly contested match at No. 3. Giovana Gaboardi battled through three sets, winning the first set in a tiebreak before ultimately falling 6-7, 7-6, 10-8. Virginia Wesleyan secured victories in the remaining singles matches, including straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6, to take the 6-1 team result.

In the men's match, Virginia Wesleyan claimed the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Ricards Spaks and Patricio Zepeda fell 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Daniel Gomes and Nicholas Pierreux dropped a close 7-6 decision at No. 2. Dan Hardy and Sebastian Soria were defeated 6-2 at No. 3.

Lynchburg picked up two singles victories. Ricards Spaks earned a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles, and Daniel Gomes secured a three-set victory at No. 3, winning 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. Virginia Wesleyan claimed the remaining singles matches to secure the 5-2 result.

The women's crew awaits the ODAC playoff tournament, while the men's group has one more match in the regular season before ODAC postseason play, taking on Hampden-Sydney in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
