Amherst, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Guilford in the ODAC quarterfinal round on Thursday afternoon to advance to the conference semifinals for the first time 2022.
The match began with doubles play, where Lynchburg secured the point by winning two of three matches.
Ashley Hair and
Giovana Gaboardi delivered a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, while
Maggie Wonderling and
Megan Tinsley added a 6-3 win at No. 3. Guilford claimed the No. 1 doubles match 6-0.
In singles competition, Lynchburg earned three completed victories to clinch the match.
Giovana Gaboardi recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and
Ashley Hair followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
Harper Dodd added a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 6 to secure the triumph.
Guilford picked up its point at No. 1 singles, where
Isadora Lima was defeated 6-2, 6-0. Two singles matches were left unfinished at the time of the decision.
Kayla Kosiorek led early in her match at No. 2, while
Megan Tinsley was also ahead in her match at No. 5 when play concluded.
Next up, the Hornets will travel to Lexington, Va. to take on the top-seeded Washington and Lee Generals on Saturday, May 2.
