Beach Volleyball Claims Wins Over Salem and Lancaster Bible

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team hosted a tri-match between Lancaster Bible and Salem and claimed two victories. Lynchburg swept LBC, 5-0, then defeated Salem to end the day, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Lynchburg Beach Courts.

The Hornets opened its tri-match with a strong showing against Lancaster Bible, earning a 5-0 sweep across all five courts. On Court 5, Cara Taylor and Virginia Zalinski were first to finish, defeating Sierra Shoemaker and Rileigh Johnson in straight sets, 21-6 and 21-9. Mady Shirey and SJ Yanz followed on Court 2 with a 21-9, 21-8 win over Kaitlyn Weitzel and Chloe Stenberg.

Kailey Keough and Amanda Trapp secured another point on Court 1, topping Maggie Kwiatkowski and Tessa Kwiatkowski, 21-6 and 21-14. Alexis Scipione and Parker Lynch added to the total on Court 3 with a 21-18, 21-12 victory against Zoe Weis and Chloe Belford. Noelle Slye and Lydia Nelson closed out the match on Court 4 with a pair of identical 21-19 set wins over Eden Belford and Faith Rex to complete the sweep.


Later in the day, Lynchburg earned a 4-1 victory over Salem (NC). Keough and Trapp picked up a straight-set win at the No. 1 position, defeating McKenzie Tullock and Ellie Scherer, 21-16 and 21-17. Shirey and Yanz followed with another 2-0 performance, topping Jolina Bun and Sadie Rich, 21-17 and 21-13. On Court 5, Zalinski and Taylor secured a 21-16, 21-9 victory over Molly Enos and Emma Marion.

The deciding point came from Lydia Nelson and Noelle Slye at No. 4, who rebounded after dropping the first set 16-21 to defeat Polly Lennie and Taylor Cook, 21-11 and 15-5 in the final two sets. Salem's lone point came at No. 3, where Leah Rymer and Ariana Noplos defeated Parker Lynch and Alexis Scipione, 21-16 and 21-14.

With the two wins, Lynchburg finished the day with a 9-1 combined court record across both matches. The Hornets return to action to conclude the regular season on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 to face four squads in Stevenson, Md.: Regent, Stevenson, Southern Virginia, and Liberty.
