Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team completed its regular season slate against Hampden-Sydney on Saturday with a 5-2 victory on the home courts of E.C. Glass.
The Hornets (8-8, 4-4 ODAC) secured the sixth seed in the ODAC postseason with today's victory over the Tigers (8-10, 4-4). The match began with doubles play, where Lynchburg secured the point by winning two of three matches.
Ricards Spaks and Patricio Zepeda earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Alvaro Quiroga Amaya and
Alexandre Gaboardi followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3. Hampden-Sydney claimed the No. 2 doubles match 6-3.
Lynchburg carried that momentum into singles, winning four matches to clinch the team result.
Ricards Spaks posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles, and
Nicholas Pierreux followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Alexandre Gaboardi added a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 3, while
Daniel Gomes secured a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 4.
Hampden-Sydney picked up points at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The No. 5 match went to three sets, where
Alvaro Quiroga Amaya fell 6-3, 3-6, 10-6. At No. 6, Patricio Zepeda was defeated 6-0, 6-1.
The Hornets are set for the ODAC postseason with the sixth seed and will play at third-seeded Averett for the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, March 28. The time for the match is to-be-determined, so follow along on lynchburgsports.com for updates.
