Lynchburg Falls in ODAC Quarterfinal to Shenandoah

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team's season came to an end Tuesday night in the ODAC quarterfinal with a 14-6 loss to the Shenandoah Hornets.

The Lynchburg Hornets (12-6, 5-3) finished the 2026 campaign with double-digit wins for the third consecutive season and their most total wins in a decade.

In the ODAC quarterfinal, Emmy Clay led the Lynchburg offense with a team-best two goals. Neely Morris matched the team-high two points with a goal and an assist. Taylor Daughtery had a strong defensive outing with two caused turnovers and one ground ball. In the crease, Olivia Owings recorded eight saves for the Hornets.

The battle of the Hornets began as a back-and-forth defensive affair. In the opening frame, Shenandoah (12-7, 5-3 ODAC) notched the first goal of the afternoon to take the lead. Lynchburg responded with two goals of its own, with a free-position goal from Clay followed by an unassisted goal from McKenna Steinau. Shenandoah answered with another goal to level the score heading into the second quarter.

The ensuing 15 minutes turned the momentum in favor of the visiting squad. Shenandoah notched two quick scores to grab its largest lead of the afternoon in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Shortly after, Lily Messineo responded to cut the deficit in half. After seven scoreless minutes, Shenandoah broke the drought with another goal before intermission to regain its two-goal lead.

The third quarter provided more of the same, with neither squad able to pull away. The offenses began to find their rhythm in the highest-scoring period of the contest. Each team traded three goals, setting the stage for the final frame.

Shenandoah took control in the fourth quarter, scoring six unanswered goals to pull away and secure a spot in the ODAC semifinal. The Hornets won five of six draw controls in the quarter to maintain possession and momentum.
