Forest, Va. – University of Lynchburg women's soccer midfielder Leigha Gronau secured her first ODAC Offensive Player of the Week honor with two goals and one assist throughout the team's pair of weekend matches in Salisbury, Md.
Gronau, a first-year from Hackettstown, N.J., notched a team-high six points through the opening two weeks of the season. With her stellar performance, Gronau became the first freshman since Mac Joly in 2022 to claim ODAC Player of the Week honors for the women's soccer team.
In Saturday's 3-0 victory over Salisbury, Gronau recorded her first goal as a Hornet in a transition opportunity. Midfielder Ally Hopkins threaded a through ball past the Salisbury back line to earn an assist.
A day later, Gronau showcased her speed with a game-winning goal over St. Mary's (Md.). The freshman shielded the ball from the converging keeper on a run, which resulted in an easy shot on an empty net.
To cap the weekend, Gronau added an assist when Makayla Hargrove found the score sheet. The Hornets ousted their opponents by a combined 5-0 scoreline in Maryland.
Gronau and the women's soccer team aim to improve their overall record to 5-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when they face Meredith at 5:00 p.m.
Lynchburg will return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 3:00 p.m. to face St. Mary's (Md.) in a neutral-site affair at Salisbury University.
