Forest, Va. – Sophomore keeper Julia Salo tallied 10 saves and posted a clean sheet for the University of Lynchburg women's soccer team to earn her first ODAC Defensive Player of the Week award with the Hornets, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The Lexington, S.C. product played a critical role in Lynchburg's 1-0 victory at Shenandoah, which featured five saves on 12 shots. In the final minutes, Salo made the game-winning save with an additional goal-line clearance from the back line, as the Hornets snagged their first conference win.
Salo also posted five saves against Emory in Charlotte, N.C., generating Lynchburg's opportunities to equalize on the attacking end. Despite the 1-0 defeat, Salo played 90 minutes and maintained confidence to handle the Eagles' 13 shots.
Salo has started eight matches to begin the 2026 campaign after transferring from Converse University in the offseason. The sophomore's .463 goals against average ranks 40th in Division III.
Lynchburg (8-1-0) returns home to host its Code Red match against Randolph-Macon (2-4-1) on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6:00 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
