Washington & Lee Rolls Past Lynchburg 14-6 for Women's Lacrosse ODAC Title

LEXINGTON, VA - The Washington & Lee University women's lacrosse team turned back upset minded Lynchburg College 14-6 to win the 2010 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship.

On a blistering hot spring day, the Generals got off to as equally a hot start as it took them barely over ten minutes to score six goals on only seven shots and went into the half with a 9-1 lead. The Hornets were able to get the offensive sparked in the second half, tallying four straight goals to make it a 12-6 game with 7:11 remaining. However, another W&L score at the 6:10 mark ended the rally and sealed the Championship for the Generals

The W&L defense was able to shut down the potent Hornet offense with double teams to prevent the one-on-one scoring opportunities. Washington & Lee was also able to dominate the draw controls, taking a 16-6 advantage to limit the LC offensive opportunities.

Lindsay Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) scored three Hornet goals along with an assist. Julie Will (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright), Patty Sheahan (Lutherville, MD/St. Timothy's), and Meredith Stuart (Chapel Hill, NC/Pomfret School) each tallied a goal. Christina Tran (Sterling, VA/Severn) made eight saves between the pipes. Maddie McKaig led W&L with three goals and two assists while Britten and Emmy Matthews each posted a hat trick with one helper. Meredith Freeman and Kate Donnelly also found the back of the net twice. Katherine Farrar played all 60 minutes in net and made nine saves.

Lynchburg concludes the season with a 14-4 record and the team's first trip to the ODAC Championship game since 2001.
