Austin Chillemi Nets 27 Points as LC Defeats Averett 99-85
LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior postman Austin Chillemi scored a career-high 27 points Monday evening as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team defeated Averett University 99-85 in non-conference action.
The Hornets started strong early, breaking out to a 22-7 lead in the first seven minutes. LC maintained the large lead all half, and had a 20-point edge at intermission. Lynchburg led by as many as 27 with nine minutes left in the game, but the Cougars trimmed the advantage to 12 in the closing seconds.
Chillemi hit 9-of-15 shots and 9-of-10 free throws en route to his career and game-high point total. He added nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Sophomore Manny Hernandez scored 13 points with six rebounds, while junior Robby Kaiser hit four of his five three-point attempts to finish with 12 points. Junior Michael Glover tallied 10 points and six caroms, and Sophomore Xavier Parham distributed 11 assists and snared six steals. Junior Brandan Connor and junior Michael Wims each had eight points.
Paul Porter led Averett (0-5) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Marquis Scott had 14 points and nine rebounds and Jonathan Setters had 13 points. The Hornet defense forced 23 turnovers.
Lynchburg (5-1) hosts Emory & Henry College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Hornets first Old Dominion Athletic Conference game of the season.
