Lynchburg Mounts Comeback, Defeats Stevenson 9-8
LYNCHBURG, VA – After falling behind 8-3 in the seventh inning, the Lynchburg College baseball team scored six runs in the next two innings to defeat Stevenson University in non-conference play on Tuesday.
In the home-opener, Lynchburg took a 3-1 lead in the sixth after junior Ragan Rudisill (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) hit a sacrifice fly to bring home sophomore Brock Shiflett (Henrico, VA/Steward School).
Stevenson answered with a seven-run inning in the seventh to pull ahead by five. In the inning, Tony Prescott had a bases-clearing triple that scored three.
Senior Mike Walters (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) and senior Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) both had a RBI in the seventh to pull within three heading to the eighth inning.
In the eighth frame, the Hornets came within one when freshman Logan Melton (Midlothian, VA/Steward) hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to tie up the game at eight. The next batter Colquhoun, followed with a double to score the go-ahead run. Freshman James Womack (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) retired the Mustangs in order to finish out the game. Womack earned the win while Jimmy Young took the loss for Stevenson (0-3).
Walters and Colquhoun each had two RBI in the game, while Colquhoun and Shiflett both went 3-4 at the plate.
Lynchburg (3-2) travels to Piedmont College on Friday.
