FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Lynchburg College softball team split their two games on Friday, defeating Methodist University 7-4 and falling to Piedmont College 4-0 in non-conference play at the Methodist Early Bird Invitational tournament.

Sophomore center fielder Stephanie Fedrigo (Sterling, VA/Dominion) went 2-3 in the first game against Methodist, scoring three RBI. Junior shortstop Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) went 2-2 with one RBI and one walk.

Senior Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) pitched five innings, giving up five hits and three runs (2-0).

Fedrigo began the scoring in the second with a double to center bringing home Walker who had walked on her previous at-bat. Fedrigo also homered in the fourth to left field scoring two to give Lynchburg a 3-0 lead. Methodist tied it up in the fifth, before Walker hit a solo home-run in the bottom of the sixth to give LC a one-run lead. Freshman Cassie Phillips (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) had a pinch-hit two RBI single in the sixth and Fedrigo scored unearned to give Lynchburg the 7-4 lead in the inning.

Senior Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) pitched an inning and a half, earning the save, her first of the season.

Lynchburg however, dropped the second game to Piedmont, 4-0. The Lions jumped out to a three-run lead in the third after a two-RBI single from Taylor Morgan and a homer from Brittney Head. They would add another tally in the 4th to make it a four-run lead.

Head was also the starting pitcher for Piedmont (4-0), and held Lynchburg to only two hits in the game. Sophomore Logan-Ann Gittman went 2-2, registering the two hits.
