FAYETTEVILLE, VA – Junior shortstop Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) delivered five hits Saturday to lead the Lynchburg College softball team to two wins at the Methodist Early Bird Invitational.
Walker was 3-4 and scored three runs as LC defeated North Carolina Wesleyan College 9-3 in the first game of the day. Freshman Melanie Tenney (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) was 2-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Meagan Fredenberg (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) also homered and was 2-4 with two runs scored. Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) homered and two RBI.
Senior Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) earned the win, throwing four innings with five hits and no walks. Tiffany Merrill (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) worked three innings of hitless relief.
Lynchburg defeated Peace College 11-4 in the nightcap. Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) pitched 5.1 innings of two-hit ball with one walk and four strikeouts to earn the win. Walker was 2-5 with three RBI and Amanda Parker (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) went 3-4. Fredenberg blasted a two-run homer and Tenney had two hits.
LC (5-1) will compete next weekend at the Virginia Wesleyan College Beast Blast.
