Lynchburg Softball Defeats Shenandoah, Baruch
SALISBURY, MD – The Lynchburg College softball team improved to a 10-2 overall record with a pair of wins on Friday against Shenandoah University and Baruch College at the Salisbury University Tournament in non-conference play.
Lynchburg began the day with a 1-0 win over Shenandoah. Senior pitcher Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) got the starting nod and pitched the win, going seven innings giving up five hits and striking out six.
Bruce also scored the winning run after a RBI-single from Samantha Gleason (Sterling, VA/Park View). With Bruce on second base in the fourth inning, Gleason hit a two-out single, driving home the only run of the game.
In the second game, LC defeated Baruch College by a final of 8-0 in five innings.
Junior Meagan Fredenberg (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and senior Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) both homered in the game to lead the Hornets. Fredenberg finished the game going 2-3 with two RBI. Freshman Melanie Tenney (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) scored twice and went 3-3.
Gleason and junior Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) both had a RBI in the game as well.
Senior Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) earned the win by pitching four innings, while only giving up two hits, no runs and striking out two.
Lynchburg will continue play in the Salisbury University Tournament tomorrow, playing York College (PA) at noon and Gettysburg College at 2 p.m.
