Lynchburg Falls in Double-Header to Randolph-Macon

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team fell in a double-header to Randolph-Macon College on Saturday 6-5 and 14-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Senior Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) led the Hornets on the day scoring three RBI in both games combined.

Going into the bottom of the fifth inning of the first game with the Yellow Jackets leading 4-1, junior Richard Palase (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and Colquhoun singled in runs to pull Lynchburg within one. The Hornets took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior Ragan Rudisill (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) and Colquhoun both drove in one run a piece to give LC the 5-4 lead.

Randolph-Macon came back with a RBI in the seventh and the eighth eventually winning 6-5. Senior Mike Walters (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) went 3-4 in the game with two doubles.

Starting pitcher Matt Morgan (Bedford, VA/Liberty) pitched 4.1 innings giving up eight hits and four runs. Dale Langford earned the win and James Bierlein registered the save for Randolph-Macon.

Lynchburg jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the second game after Colquhoun singled in a RBI in the first and Walters doubled to left field driving in freshman Jake Tanner (Big Island, VA/Liberty).

The Yellow Jackets however put up ten runs in the third inning on the Hornets. Jeb Weymouth led RMC with three RBI going 3-5 at the plate.

Senior Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) pitched four innings of scoreless relief for the Hornets giving up only three hits.

Palase hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to left field. Freshman Michael Mansfield (Richmond, VA/Henrico) took the loss while Michael Helbig earned the win for Randolph-Macon (10-6/6-0 ODAC).

Lynchburg (9-8/4-2 ODAC) hosts Greensboro College on Tuesday at 3 p.m. on Fox Field.
