LC Drops Doubleheader to Randolph College
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team fell to cross-town rival Randolph College in a doubleheader 3-2 and 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
In the first game Randolph took a 2-0 advantage until Lynchburg tied the score in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Meagan Fredenberg (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) hit a two-run home run in the inning after junior Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) walked in the previous at bat.
Randolph scored the decisive run in the top of the fifth inning scored in the fifth inning off a Lynchburg error to take the 3-2 lead. Senior Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) started the game, going all seven innings giving up seven hits and striking out three.
Kristen Hutchinson pitched all seven innings for the WildCats, giving up six hits and striking out five. Ashley Gardner was 1-4 at the plate with a RBI.
In the second game, Brittany Willingham, Gina Pagano, and Julie Helton knocked in two RBI each, leading Randolph to the 7-1 victory. The WildCats led 7-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Fredenberg singled to left driving home freshman Melanie Tenney (Yorktown, VA/Tabb).
Senior Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) got the start, giving up seven hits and striking out two. Sophomore Tiffany Merrill (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) pitched four and two-thirds innings of relief, only giving up one hit and striking out six.
Brittany Via pitched five and one-third innings for the WildCats (12-8/2-2) giving up six hits and striking out six while earning the win.
Lynchburg (12-4/0-2) hosts Greensboro College tomorrow afternoon in a double-header beginning at 3 p.m.
