LYNCHBURG, VA – The Greensboro College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Thursday at Lynchburg College on Aubrey Moon Field.

Greensboro held on for a 5-4 win in the opener. LC scored three runs in the first two frames, but the Pride plated five runs in the top of the third, three off a home run by Sarah Bell. Neither team added any runs to the scoreboard until the Hornets threatened in the bottom of the seventh. Katie Bruce singled to the right field fence with two outs to cut the lead to 5-4, and LC had runners on first and third. But Greensboro pitcher Kelsey Sanfilippo struck out the last Hornet batter on a full count for the victory.

Melanie Tenney and Meagan Fredenberg each had two hits for LC, while Stephanie Fedrigo had a hit, a walk, a run and an RBI. Sarah Bell was 2-3 with a home run for Greensboro. Sanfilippo earned the win, tossing five innings of relief with seven strikeouts, three hits and two walks. Bruce threw four and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for LC.

After five scoreless innings in the nightcap, the Pride offense scored five in the final two frames for a 5-0 victory. Brittany Teer drilled a three-run home to provide insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Hannah Pennell worked all seven innings for GC (9-9), allowing just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Lynchburg (12-6) looks to get back on track this weekend with Old Dominion athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheaders at Emory & Henry College and Eastern Mennonite University.
