Lynchburg Takes Doubleheader vs. Emory & Henry
EMORY, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team won both its games on Saturday against Emory & Henry by scores of 9-1 and 6-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The first game of the doubleheader started off with Lynchburg scoring five runs in the first inning. Senior Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette), senior Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier), sophomore Stephanie Fedrigo (Sterling, VA/Dominion) all had a RBI while sophomore Logan-Ann Gittman (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) had a two-RBI double in the inning.
Lynchburg added to the lead in the fifth inning when Fedrigo hit a grand slam to give the Hornets the eventual 9-1 victory. Bruce went all five innings while giving up three hits, one run and striking out eight. Starting pitcher Sierra Waters gave up eight hits in the loss.
In the second game, both teams were scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Lynchburg scored four runs. Freshman Cassie Phillips (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) hit a two-RBI double while junior Sarah Smith (Danville, VA/Tunstall) and junior Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) both had a RBI in the inning as well. The Hornets registered two more runs in the sixth and limited the Wasps to only a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Senior Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) pitched all seven innings giving up only six hits and one earned run. Jennifer True got the starting nod for Emory & Henry (3-11/0-4 ODAC) giving up seven hits and six runs.
Lynchburg (14-6/2-2 ODAC) heads to Eastern Mennonite University tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
