VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Junior Lesley Buckingham (Herndon, VA/Herndon) scored four goals as the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team defeated Virginia Wesleyan College 14-8 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday. Buckingham also scooped five ground balls and won three draw-controls.
Sophomore Kendall Adkin (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and senior Morgan Logue (Barrington, IL/Barrington) added three goals apiece.
LC jumped to a 5-1 in the first half helped in part to a pair of goals from Buckingham. Senior Patty Sheahan (Lutherville, MD/St. Timothy's) scored with 17 seconds left in the half so give Lynchburg the four-goal advantage going into halftime.
The Hornets were able to put up nine goals in the second half with Adkin's three goals coming in the second frame. A 4-0 LC run in the second half spurred Lynchburg to a 14-8 final.
Sophomores Julie Will (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and Sarah Shannon (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman) both registered four ground balls each. Junior goalie Christina Tran (Sterling, VA/Severn) made nine saves on the evening.
Courtney Williams scored four goals to lead the Marlins (3-5/1-1 ODAC).
Lynchburg (5-3/1-0 ODAC) head to Bridgewater College on Saturday for another conference bout at 1 pm.
