Bridgewater Takes Two from LC Softball
BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Bridgewater College softball team got two good starting pitching performances Tuesday afternoon en route to a doubleheader sweep of Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twin bill.
The Eagles scored two runs in the second and the fourth innings of the opener, and Heather Jenkins made the lead stand up in a 4-0 win. She struck out five in the complete-game shutout, scattering five hits and two walks. Rachel Gallagher had a double and a walk for Lynchburg, while Cassie Phillips was 2-3 and also threw a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts.
Gallagher opened the nightcap with a two-run home run in the top of the first, but it proved to be the only runs the LC offense would score as Bridgewater rallied for a 6-2 win. Melanie Tenney reached base safely in all three of her plate appearances with a single and two walks. Eagle pitcher Aven Thomas settled down after the rough first inning, striking out nine batters while allowing just four hits.
Bridgewater improves to 18-5 overall and 8-2 in the ODAC with the sweep.
Lynchburg (26-10/4-6 ODAC) hosts Roanoke College Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in another ODAC doubleheader. The program's four seniors will be honored between the two games.
