VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team didn't allow a run Saturday en route to posting two wins at the Virginia Wesleyan College Beach Blast Tournament.
Senior right-hander Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) was dominant in a complete-game 4-0 shutout victory against Stevenson University in the opener, allowing just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Melanie Tenney (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) was 3-4 with an RBI while Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) homered and had two hits. Meagan Fredenberg (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) also homered for LC, while Samantha Gleason (Sterling, VA/Park View) was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
The Hornets (8-2) defeated Averett University 3-0 in the second contest behind another good pitching performance. Tiffany Merrill (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) earned the win for LC, working five innings and allowing just one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Senior Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) worked two perfect innings for the save. Walker had a hit, a run and an RBI, while Sarah Smith (Danville, VA/Tunstall) was 1-3 with an RBI. Bruce also had a hit and scored.
Lynchburg will compete next weekend at the Salisbury University Tournament.
