Lynchburg Women's Lax Defeats Randolph 19-3
LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior Lesley Buckingham (Herndon, VA/Herndon) scored four goals and teammate sophomore Sarah Shannon (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman) added three as the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team defeated Randolph College 19-3 on Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. Buckingham broke her own school record tonight for goals in a season - and now sits at 60 for the the year with at least two games remaining.
The Hornets jumped to an initial 4-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game with goals coming from Buckingham, Shannon, senior Morgan Logue (Barrington, IL/Barrington) and sophomore Kendall Adkin (New Milford, CT/New Milford). Logue finished the game with three assists and three groundballs. Buckingham continues to lead the ODAC in goals, now with 60 total on the season.
Randolph scored at the 26:44 mark of the first half, but Lynchburg would score eight straight goals to lead 12-1 going into halftime. Buckingham scored three goals in a row at one point in the first half.
The Hornets opened it up in the second half with freshman Chelsea Russell (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) and sophomore Kaleigh Reid (West Grove, PA/Avon Grove) each scoring twice in the frame. Reid also scooped two groundballs in the contest. Lynchburg yielded only two more Randolph goals in the second half, finishing with a 19-3 final score.
Sophomores Julie Will (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and Carley Dobson (Salisbury, MD/Salisbury) both won three draw controls while fellow sophomore Meridith Stuart (Chapel Hill, NC/Pomfret School) grabbed three groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Junior goalie Christina Tran (Sterling, VA/Severn) made two saves, earning the win. Freshman Chelsey Grosberger (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) and sophomore Emma Davis (Alexandria, VA/Mt. Vernon) each saw playing time in goal with Davis notching three saves.
Ashley Edwards, Danielle Haney and Nushaa Kaz each scored goals for Randolph (1-12/0-7 ODAC).
Lynchburg (11-4/7-1 ODAC) hosts Sweet Briar College on Saturday for Senior Day at 1 pm on Shellenberger Field.
