Lynchburg Falls to Ferrum in Doubleheader
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team fell to Ferrum College in a doubleheader on Wednesday by scores of 7-2 and 6-2 in non-confernce play.
In the first game, Ferrum held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth until senior Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) homered to center field, pulling the Hornets within one. However, the Panthers used a five-run sixth inning to push the lead to 7-2. Freshman Amanda Parker (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) drove in senior Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) in the bottom of the seventh, but the Hornets could not complete the rally, falling 7-2.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Ferrum took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third and added another run in the fourth and one in the sixth to keep the Hornets at bay. Bruce started the game pitching, but eventually gave way to freshman Cassie Phillips (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) who pitched four and a third innings of relief, giving up five hits, two runs and striking out three.
