Hornets Split Doubleheader with Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team split a doubleheader with Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon dropping the first game 5-2, while winning the second 4-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
In the first game, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and then added two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings pulling ahead 5-0. The Hornets answered back in the ninth scoring two runs, one from center fielder Mike Walters (Manassas, VA/Osbourn), and one from first basemen Michael Del Buono (Clifton, VA/Robinson), but were unable to keep going putting the final score at 5-2 in favor of Bridgewater.
Michael Kenah (Clifton, VA/Robinson) and Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) each had RBIs for the Hornets. Matt Morgan (Bedford, VA/Liberty) pitched seven innings for LC allowing five runs and nine hits with three strikeouts.
In the second game, the Hornets came out strong, scoring a run by Ragan Rudisill (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) in the first inning from an RBI single by Walters. The Eagles answered back with a run of their own tying the score at 1-1 at the end of the first inning. The Hornets scored again in the third inning because of a throwing error, putting the score at 2-1. LC scored in the sixth on a Kenah single and Watkins doubled in the ninth and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
James Womack (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) pitched six innings for LC and got the win, allowing only one run and four hits with three strikeouts, while Jared Millner (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) got the save pitching one inning and only allowing one hit.
The LC baseball team (20-13/13-3 ODAC) will be back in action at home on Saturday, April 16 when they will face ODAC opponent Emory & Henry College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
