Lynchburg Falls to Roanoke in the Semi-Finals
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team fell to Roanoke College 14-8 Wednesday night in the semi-final round of the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. Roanoke advances to play Washington & Lee University on Sunday in the ODAC Championship game.
Morgan Logue led the Hornets with three goals in the game.
Lynchburg initially went up 2-1 after goals from Lesley Buckingham and Patty Sheahan. Both teams traded goals in the first half with the Maroons leading 7-5 at halftime. Christina Tran had nine saves alone in the half. Morgan Logue and Julie Will also added goals in the first frame.
Carolyn Miller for Roanoke scored at 27:24 of the second half to push the lead to 8-5. Kendall Adkin added a goal at 25:03 to cut the Maroons lead to two.
Gina Valles scored her third goal of the game at 19:59 to give the Maroons a three-goal cushion. Roanoke led 10-6 until the 16-minute mark when Logue scored her second goal to cut the lead to three.
The Maroons scored the next three goals in the period including two more from Valles who finished the game with five total tallies, one assist and five ground balls. Logue scored at 3:37 to cut the lead to 13-8 but Meegan Rourke answered back for Roanoke at 2:12 for a final of 14-8.
Tran finished with 14 saves overall in the game.
Lynchburg finishes the season with a 12-5 record including an 8-1 mark in conference.
