Lynchburg Softball Falls to No. 7 Emory, Rallies in the Seventh Inning to Beat Millsaps

ATLANTA, GA –
The Lynchburg College softball team split its two games on Sunday, falling to No. 7 Emory University 5-1 in the first game before rallying in the seventh inning to beat Millsaps College 4-3 in the Emory University Classic Tournament.

In the first game against Emory, the Eagles took an initial 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before LC added a run in the top of the third to tie it. Sophomore Melanie Tenney tripled, scoring senior Sarah Smith to even the score. Tenney finished the game 2-3 from the plate.

Emory then took advantage of two LC errors in the bottom of the fourth, adding two runs to lead 3-1. The Eagles then scored two more in the bottom of the sixth before closing out the Hornets by a score of 5-1.

Freshman Amber Ingram earned the start in the circle, pitching the full game. Bridget Holloway earned the win for the Eagles (10-1), pitching a complete game while limiting the Hornets to six hits.

Millsaps scored first in the second game against Lynchburg, with three runs in the top of the third frame. Senior Meagan Fredenberg homered in the bottom of the fourth to put LC on the board, making the score 3-1. The Hornets then staged a rally in the seventh when freshman Amber Sulter singled, scoring Fredenberg. Tenney singled in freshman Hope Johnson to even the game at three. Ingram followed with a single scoring sophomore Amanda Parker, leading Lynchburg to a 4-3 victory.

Laurel Jones pitched the entire game for Millsaps (1-2), taking the loss.

Freshman Elizabeth Fioretti started the game at pitcher for LC before giving way to freshman Kaitlyn Morris who gave up only two hits in four and two-thirds innings.

Lynchburg (4-4) heads to the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament next weekend, beginning with a game against York College on Friday.
