No. 3 Hornets Roll Past Guilford 18-4

LYNCHBURG, VA – Twelve different players scored as the third-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team defeated Guilford College 18-4 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday night. The program's 15 seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Night.

The Hornets drew first blood with an unassisted goal from junior Max Voumard with 12:26 left in the first quarter. Senior Dylan Hoff fired in the next goal for LC at 11:04, but the Quakers got on the scoreboard next, with a goal at 8:35 by Chris Sisk. Voumard scored another goal and Lynchburg finished off the period with a 3-1 lead.

The Hornets came out strong in the second period, scoring the first three goals. Seniors Hoff, Andrew Wilfong and Chris Rainwater netted the three tallies, while seniors Ben Sauer, Chase Loetz and Jon Lombardo each recorded assists. Guilford's Taylor Teodosio scored with 9:52 left in the second period narrowing the Hornets' lead to 6-2. The Hornets went on to score five straight to end the second period, pushing the lead to 11-2. Goals came from Hoff, Sauer, junior Derek Sweet and senior Franc Cook, who tallied his first career goal.

LC scored all five goals of the third period, including marks from freshman Todd Galvin, sophomore Robert Arnold and junior Josh Davey. The Hornets ended the third period ahead 16-2.

Davey opened the final period with an unassisted goal at 11:44 and freshman Nick Betonti followed with a score of his own at 9:57 with an assist from freshman Luke Ernst to make the score 18-2. Guilford scored the final two goals of the game, making it a final of 18-4.

Hoff and Voumard each had three goals on the night, while Sauer and Davey fired in two goals. Hoff also had three assists, garnering a point total of six on the night.  

Cook, senior Roland St. Clair-Barrie, freshman Andrew Fawkes and freshman James Cook accounted for seven saves on the night for the Hornets and Thomas Deane of the Quakers recorded 15 saves in 50 minutes of action.

The Hornets (14-1/6-0 ODAC) will be back in action on Saturday, April 21 when they will travel to face ODAC opponent Virginia Wesleyan College in their final game of the regular season at 7 p.m.
