Hornet Softball Splits ODAC DH at Roanoke

TROUTVILLE, VA- The Lynchburg College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Friday against Roanoke College in games played at the Lord Botetourt Sports Complex.

Lynchburg won the opener 4-3 after each team scored three runs in the first inning. Sophomore Melanie Tenney led off with a single and scored on freshman Jessi Hall's double. Hall would later score on a passed ball and freshman Amber Sulter singled to score fellow freshman Amber Ingram and go ahead 3-0. Roanoke countered with three of its own in the bottom of the frame, fueled by a two-run double from the bat of Felice Lowery. Hornet freshman right-hander Hope Johnson settled down after that, allowing just four base-runners in the final six innings.

The game remained a three-all tie until the Hornets struck in the top of the sixth. Sulter led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single from freshman Kacey Clary. Johnson worked out of jams in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the complete-game win. Hall finished with three hits and Sulter had two. Lowery went 3-3 with two doubles for the Maroons.

The Hornets had leads of 3-1 and 5-3 in the nightcap, but Roanoke rallied for a 10-5 win. Hall singled, stole second and scored on an Ingram double to give LC a 1-0 edge in the top of the first. Roanoke scored a run in the bottom of the frame but Lynchburg scored two runs in the second, taking advantage of a wild pitch and a passed ball in the inning. RC tied the game with two runs in the fourth, but the Hornets again pulled ahead with two runs in the top of the fifth. LC took advantage of two Roanoke errors and another passed ball to take a 5-3 lead. The Maroons tied the game with two in the fifth and took over with five more in the sixth.

Hall again had three hits to total six on the day and Clary had two base hits. Lowery had four singles for RC (23-9/11-5), finishing 7-for-7 in the twin bill.

Lynchburg (19-17/10-6 ODAC) is scheduled to face Guilford College Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. for Senior Day in the final regular-season games of the spring.
