Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Eagles 15-14

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a sizeable seven-goal lead in the first half, and held on for a 15-14  Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday.

LC scored three quick goals over the first five minutes of play, with Katie Seidel, Katherine Francis, and Bri Slate all tallying in the run.  Paige Hennessy answered for the Eagles in a man-down situation with a shot from the top of the circle, but the Hornets came back with another three-goal run to take a 6-1 lead.  Kendall Adkin, Julie Will (free position), and Grace Finnerty scored in succession, with Finnerty netting her first career-goal.

Once again, Bridgewater scored, followed by another Lynchburg three-tally flurry, but this time BC would respond with its own run.  Bridgewater scored the final four goals of the half, to go into the intermission down 9-6.

The teams went back and forth at the beginning of the second stanza, but it became dicey for the Hornets at the 14:00 minute mark, as Taylor Chamberlain scored for the Eagles to knot the score at 11.  Two seniors then stepped up for LC, as Adkin and Carley Dobson brought the advantage back to two for Lynchburg over the next three minutes.

Carli Bradford then put two shots in the back of the net for BC, but in between Slate netted her second of the game.  Ryland Scott added an insurance goal at 3:36, which was needed, as LC finished off the tough road victory.

Laura Reynolds made eight saves for Bridgewater (4-8 overall, 2-4 ODAC) in the loss.  Bradford and Chamberlain each had four goals for the Eagles.  Hailey Bossert had nine saves in the win, with Caroline Kilby and Adkin each netting hat-tricks on the afternoon.

Lynchburg (7-5, 4-3) returns home on Wednesday with ODAC rival Roanoke College coming to town.  This game has added importance as RC eliminated LC in the conference semifinals the past two seasons.  Action begins at 7 p.m.
