Hornet Softball Splits Doubeheader at Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at the University of Mary Washington, dropping the first game 5-4 and taking game two 4-2.
Junior Jessi Hall led off the opener with a triple to right field and scored on an error to put LC up 1-0 early. Mary Washington scored single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead after six frames, before LC rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh. Hall led off the seventh with a three-bagger, and Melanie Tenney was hit by a pitch to put the go-ahead run at the plate. Danielle Powell homered to deep left field to put LC ahead 4-3, but the Eagles countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to walk off with a 5-4 win.
Kayla St. John went 3-4 for LC, while Hall and Tenney were each 2-3. Britany Scites was 3-3 with three runs scored for UMW.
Lynchburg Junior Amber Ingram scattered five hits in the second game to earn the win, striking out eight in a complete-game effort. Nicole Riley went 3-4, Skylar Seals drove in three runs and Powell went 2-3 with a stolen base.
Grace Henry doubled for UMW (5-4).
Lynchburg (10-4) hosts Shenandoah University Sunday at 11 a.m. (note time change) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader.
