Defense Holds Berry in Check as Hornets Race to 18-3 Win

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team rode a 12-1 run in Saturday's non-conference action against Berry College to defeat the Vikings 18-3.

The Hornets struck first in the opening half when Ryland Scott scored an unassisted goal a mere 37 seconds into the action. A minute later, Kristan Dziurzynski found the back of the cage to even the score at one.

Lynchburg would make its defensive presence known the rest of the way, limiting Berry to two more goals the rest of the way.

Tied at one, the Hornets scored a pair of goals from Katie Seidel, and one each from Caroline Kilby and Maddie Koontz to take a 5-1 lead with 23:08 left in the first.

Rachel Aiken found Claire Rosenberg to cut the Viking deficit to three, 5-2, but Lynchburg scored the next eight goals.

Kilby and Seidel added a pair in the 8-0 run while Bri Slate, Laura Meisner, Katherine Francis and Caroline Carozza all had single tallies. Slate had two assists while Francis, Carozza, Seidel and Kira Castle each had one during the run.

Lizzie Jones added a third goal for Berry with 19:36 left in the second half, but the Hornet defense was sound in holding the Vikings scoreless for a 31 minute period that spanned the halftime break.

Seidel led the Hornets with four goals and one assist while Kilby added three goals and a helper. Slate finished with two goals, three assists and five caused turnovers as Francis, Meisner and Carozza each contributed a pair of goals. Francis led the Hornets with seven draw controls while Koontz added five caused turnovers.

Kelsey McAnnally led the Vikings (4-2) with three draw controls while Rosenberg finished with a goal and an assist.

Lynchburg (2-2/1-0) travels to Roanoke College (2-2/0-0) Wednesday for a big Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
