LC Softball Sweeps Guilford 8-0 and 6-2

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg softball team swept both ends of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Saturday against visiting Guilford by scores of 8-0 in five innings and 6-2. The program's four seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony and retiring LC director of athletics Dr. Jack Toms threw out the first pitch.

The Hornets started strong with a pair of runs in the first inning of the opener, aided by two Quaker errors. Danielle Powell and Amber Ingram contributed RBI singles in the frame. LC exploded in the bottom of the fifth for six runs and a two-run single from pitch-hitter Amy Bresson ended the game.

Junior pitcher Hope Johnson cruised through her five innings to earn the win, allowing just three hits while striking out five. Powell finished 3-3 with a double and two runs and Ingram had two hits.

Hornet pitching again was superb in the nightcap, as Ingram worked all seven innings, allowing seven hits and no walks with one earned run and six strikeouts.

Lynchburg plated three runs in the third, with Skylar Seals scoring two with a single. Cynthia Hayes drilled a ground-rule double to push across a run for Guilford in the top of the fifth, but LC answered with two in the bottom of the frame. Seals hit a sacrifice fly to score Kayla St. John, and Olivia Donahue singled for the second run. Ingram contributed an RBI single in the sixth to make the score 6-1 and Guilford scored one in the seventh and final inning.

Ingram again had two hits in the second game, and drove in two runs. Seals had three RBI and Melanie Tenney reached base three times.

Taylor Boyd and Casey Snead each had two hits for Guilford (21-11/6-8 ODAC).

The Hornets (21-11/9-5 ODAC) travel to Roanoke College for another conference doubleheader Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
