LC Splits Doubleheader with EMU
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Wednesday with Eastern Mennonite University, winning the first game 5-0 and dropping game two 9-1 in five innings.
Cara Neikirk held the Hornets hitless through four innings in the opener, before LC broke the game open for five runs in the fifth. Skylar Seals and Nicole Shipp singled and Jessi Hall followed with a one-base hit to score LC's first run. Melanie Tenney drew a walk to load the bases with one out, and a wild pitch advanced all three runners. Sophomore Danielle Powell lofted a three-run home run over the left-center field fence to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead.
Hope Johnson scattered nine hits and two walks to earn the shutout victory. Brooke Sigrist and Mariah Foltz each had three hits for EMU.
The Royals had a 2-1 lead in the nightcap and posted four runs in the third and three in the fourth to finish off the Hornets. Hall was 3-3 for Lynchburg and drove in the Hornets' run.
Molly Smith went 3-3 with two runs, two RBI and a home run for EMU, and Sigrist again had three hits. Jordan Aylor worked all five innings for the Royals (8-11-1/3-4-1) to earn the win, allowing just five hits.
The Hornets (15-7/3-1 ODAC) travel to Randolph-Macon College Saturday for another ODAC game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
