ATLANTA, GA – The Lynchburg College softball team split a pair of games Saturday at the Emory University Tournament to open the 2015 season.
LC defeated Rhodes College (TN) 10-4 in the opener, cruising to victory after a six-run third inning. Senior catcher Olivia Donahue went 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI, and Logan Walker also had two hits and scored two runs. Amber Sulter drove in two Hornets and Amber Ingram belted a solo home run.
Hope Johnson picked up the win in the circle, and freshman Conner English worked 3 2/3 innings of one-run relief. Rachel Pewitt, Caroline Reilly and Makenzie Martin each belted solo home runs for the Lynx (0-2).
Emory University, ranked #16 in NCAA Division III to open the season, posted a 7-3 win over LC in the second game of the day. The Eagles opened a 5-1 lead after two innings, but Lynchburg scored two runs in the third frame on a two-run blast from sophomore Kayla St. John. Emory plated two more runs in the fourth and neither team added any runs afterwards.
St. John finished 2-3 with two runs scored. Tara Fallahee went 3-3 for Emory (2-0) with two RBI and Taylor Forte was 2-3 with a home run.
