Mary Washington Defeats LC Women's Lax 16-8
FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team opened the 2015 season Wednesday afternoon at the University of Mary Washington, and were defeated by a tough Eagle squad 16-8.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Emily Atkinson on a free position shot five minutes in. LC answered quickly after a draw control by Lindsay Parker who then fed Caroline Carozza for LC's first goal of the season. Carozza scored again and Katie Seidel added a tally to give LC a 3-2 early lead. UMW posted four-straight goals and went into intermission ahead 8-5.
Mary Washington took control of the game for good with four-straight tallies to open the second half.
Carozza ended with five goals for the Hornets and Seidel and Sidney Gleason each posted a goal and an assist. Katherine Francis also found the back of the net for LC.
Atkinson tied Carozza for game-high goal honors with five of her own, and Emily Mott added three goals and two assists for UMW (2-1). Corrine Wiederkehr also had a hat trick for the hosts.
The Hornets (0-1) are scheduled to travel to Marymount University Saturday for another non-conference contest at 1 p.m.
